Social Engagement and Communication

This track aims to explore the multifaceted aspects of social engagement and communication, with a specific emphasis on digital communication, and its impact on organized human interactions, both in professional or educational contexts. Research findings, theoretical frameworks, and practical insights are welcome; we aim to enrich our understanding of the evolving nature of communication in contemporary society and its implications for individuals and organizations.

There are several potential lines of interest, as detailed below.

Digital communication: we invite contributions addressing the impact and role of digital communication within structured human relationships, especially in the realms of workplaces and educational settings. Topics may include the influence of digital communication on work dynamics, team collaboration, and educational methodologies. We encourage analyses of both challenges and opportunities presented by digital communication technologies.

Overlapping notions: we invite scholarly reflections on the contemporary overlap of diverse frontier concepts. Communications should critically examine the risks, opportunities, and best practices concerning this convergence, especially in interlinguistic and intercultural contexts. We encourage a hermeneutic approach, fostering discussions on the nuanced interpretations of overlapping notions in today’s globalized world, with consequences on workplaces or educational institutions.

Audio-visual literacy and textual redefinition: this theme delves into the realm of audio-visual literacy within the broader context of literacies and the redefinition of textual forms. We seek contributions exploring the evolving landscape of literacy, focusing on audio-visual mediums, and their impact on the interpretation and creation of texts. Communications may delve into the transformative effects of audio-visual elements on traditional textual forms and their implications for communication and understanding in working or educational settings.

Bullying and cyberbullying are widespread phenomena across countries with significant impact on student wellbeing, as suggested by decreased self-esteem and academic performance, alongside an increase in physical symptoms, depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts (Holt et al., 2015; Klomek et al., 2010; Kowalski et al., 2014). As suggested by the “Global Accelerates Action for the Health of Adolescents” (WHO, 2017) and the 2030 Agenda, investments in adolescent health are crucial for this generation to create more sustainable societies. Therefore, improving research on bullying and cyberbullying is a priority, and several areas with promising new challenges should be deeply investigated.
